Battle Round Updates
DECEMBER 7th 2012 | Questions and answers about the Battle Round.
The Battle Round has been running for a couple days and it's been really interesting to see the results so far. We've put together this list of FAQs to answer your common questions about this round.
How do I vote?
1. Login to your account or don't login to your account -- doesn't matter.
2. Start the Battle.
3. Choose between the two authors you see.
4. Click the "next battle" graphic in the middle of the page.
5. Do that six more times (if you want).
6. At the end of voting, you can enter to win an iPad by registering or logging in. This is not required.
That's all there is to it!
When will the Battle Round end?
The Battle Round will end on Thursday, December 13th at 10 AM EST. At first we planned to have it run until the 11th, but we decided to extend it a little to make up for a glitch that some people encountered during first day of voting. Even though none of the contestants ended up with a disadvantage, we think this is a nice gesture. However, it will cut down the jury's decision time by one day.
How is the Battle Rank calculated?
The number you see is the percentage of battles that the author has won. For example, if an author's score is 51, that means he/she has won 51% of the time. This score is cumulative throughout the entire Battle Round week.
How often is the Battle Rank updated?
The Battle Rank will be updated at least once per day, but sometimes more often.
How is the order of contestants determined?
The order in which the authors are presented is randomized at the start of each user's voting session.
When try to login, I just get asked to login again.
This was a bug that affected a minority of users during the first day of voting, and it has been resolved.
When I try to vote, I just get directed to the Battle score.
This happens if you or someone else on your IP address has already voted. There is only one voting session allowed per IP. This was also the case during the previous rounds of the contest, and this is a safety measure in place in order to prevent voting fraud. Your IP address is the same for all computers and devices on your network. If you really want to vote again, you'll have to go to another network, like at your local library or coffee shop. ;)
Someone told me they couldn't vote, so I must be losing a ton of votes! OMG!
If one person can't vote, that doesn't mean nobody can vote. Literally thousands of votes have already been registered so there is no widespread voting problem. If you get a report from someone saying they're having trouble, please email us all relevant details, such as the user's OS and browser and exactly what they are experiencing.
Do I have to register or login to vote?
No. You can vote with or without logging in. At the end of your voting session, you'll still get the option to register or login to enter to win an iPad.
