Winner Announcement
DECEMBER 18th 2012 | The winner of America's Next Author 2012 has been announced!
And the winner is ... Kate Baggott! Congratulations, Kate. You are America's Next Author! (And you win $5000!)
Kate was chosen by our jury members as a wildcard pick. After working hard through eight weeks of nomination rounds, she entered the Battle Round, an intense bout of competition between the 14 finalists. She got enough votes to secure a spot in the top 3, and was sent on to the Jury Round.
The jury deliberated between the top 3 stories and unanimously chose Kate's story "Finnegan and Grandfather Cheng" as the winner.
"It was a pleasure to read and really stood out as a quiet but well-crafted story that dealt with real human emotions," said one jury member.
Jen Barton and Jill Amber Menard are the runners up, and win $500 each. All three of these ladies are excellent writers and did an amazing job during #ANA2012.
Congratulations to Kate, all of the finalists, and everyone who was brave enough to enter a new kind of writing contest. You had the guts to put your story in front of the world, and you made the contest fun and exciting.
