Byeong Gi Lee is a Fellow of the IEEE and a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK). He received his Ph.D. degree from UCLA and worked for Granger Associates, Santa Clara, and AT&T Bell Laboratories, North Andover, before joining Seoul National University (SNU), where he served as the Vice Chancellor for Research and the Director of the Institute of New Media and Communications, and is currently a Professor of Electrical Engineering. Byeong was a co-founder and the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Communications and Networks; a co-founder and Steering Committee Chair of the Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC); a co-founder and Steering Committee Chair of the Joint Conference of Communications and Information (JCCI); and a co-founder and past Vice President of the Accreditation Board of Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK). Byeong is a past President of the Korea Society for Engineering Education (KSEE) and the past President of the Korea Information and Communications Society (KICS), an important ComSoc Sister Society. He served as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technologies, the Presidential Advisory Committee for Policy Planning and the Policy Committee of the Ministry of Justice of Korea. He is now on leave from SNU to serve as a Commissioner of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC). His fields of research interest include communication systems and integrated broadband networks. He is a co-author of several books, including Broadband Telecommunication Technology (Artech House, 1993), Scrambling Techniques for Digital Transmission (Springer Verlag, 1994), Scrambling Techniques for Wireless Communications (Kluwer, 2001), Integrated Broadband Networks (Artech House, 2002), and Mobile WiMAX and Wi-Fi (Artech House, 2008, tbp).
