Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley were teenagers in 1993 when they were arrested for the murders of three eight-year-old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas. These men are now known as the West Memphis Three, after their case gained support all over the world. Many believe that they did not commit the crimes they were accused of because of a lack of evidence in the original trial and what is now believed to be a false confession taken from a mentally challenged man. DNA and other forensic testing has now shown no evidence of a link between these men and the crime. Damien Echols was sentenced to death in 1994. The three men fought for their freedom for 18 years.
