Dom Goodall

When the wolves are calling, who could answer but one person? Besieged not by doubt but instead by enthusiasm and the songs of those lupines who exist only in the murkiest part of her mind (and dreams). Dominique Goodall will always answer the call of the wolves - they are the ones who lend her words form and shape her words into coherent pictures and settings. She loves to write about wolves - and likely always will include them somewhere in her tales.

Q:
What is the best writing advice you've ever heard?
A:
With the dreaded 'writer's block' try writing something on another project then returning to your first one. It helps you get over that stumbling block.
Q:
When you start a new story do you prepare an outline in advance or do you just jump right in?
A:
I jump right in! It's more fun and...letting characters run wild is kinda my preferred way to write.
Q:
How do you deal with writing criticism, apart from just ignoring it?
A:
I try and learn from it. If I believe the criticism has any basis on my story, then I appraise my story, see if the edits made can be applied/if they fit in well and apply them.

I think this was an amazing story, and I was sad that it was so short. I would buy and read a novel based on these characters in a heart beat. The wolf is my spirit animal, and I love the way Dom gives them true emotion and personality. I was so happy they found each other again and just as with my own sister after a huge fight, we fall back into the love that has sustained us all our lives. <3

Great premise. My only suggestion would be to show more versus telling. I love the idea of a story being told from an animals point of view. As a pet owner, I am forever wondering what they are thinking.

Wonderful story of two wolf sisters. I love the details of the animal interaction, fur, fangs and more. Dom has a great skill with moving the reader right into a wolf point of view.

Although this seems like it could have a lot of potential, I had a hard time getting through it. The story feels very cliche, although I think the invention of wolves with wings is interesting. Everything is out in the open; there is no mystery to the story. Within minutes, I already know everything about the motivation of the main character and where you are probably going with it. I think if you tried to create a little more depth to the story itself that it would be great. Don't let the reader know everything all at once - tell us over time what is supposed to happen. The dialogue needs a lot of help as well. If Singer and Kamduis are really discussing dangerous things together, would they talk so openly about it, or would they wait for a more private location? With some work, I think this could be a great story.

Dom has really done some brilliant work with this story. The writing style is detailed but not to the point of sacrificing pacing. The characters were well written and I could feel myself growing attached to them even in such a short amount of time. I Would definitely enjoy reading more in this fantasy world, Dom truly is a brilliant and passionate writer. Keep up the wonderful work!

I have praises, but also concerns for the story. It is very imaginative and sweetly metaphorical, and I actually deeply identified with the two sisters overcoming a long rift during which they had wounded each other. I think it could have used more editing as there were some grammatical errors and typos, and in a few places sentence structure was a little strange. Dom does paint a vivid word picture, though. My big concern is that it feels very much as if it has been adapted from a larger piece, and while more attention was given to make it feel complete than has been given some other excerpted stories in this competition, I'm wary about it because it sounds an awful lot like it could be part of what she describes as her soon-to-be-released first book. Hopefully it isn't, but the wintery title of the book sounds like it goes hand in hand with this story's post-blizzard plot.

Awesome read with a good story line. Reminds me of my favorite author Jack London. Good plot and easy to follow.
