J.A. Jance eBooks
J. A. Jance is an American horror and thriller writer. She was born in 1944 in South Dakota and raised in Arizona. She earned degrees in English, Education, and Library Science at the University of Arizona.
Despite having an early desire to become a writer, she was discouraged from writing as a career by both a creative writing professor and her first husband. Despite this, though, Jance continued writing poetry, a volume of which, After the Fire, she eventually published in 2001. While selling insurance during the day, Jance wrote her first three novels in the early hours of the morning.
Her first published novel, 1985’s Until Proven Guilty, started the Detective J.P. Beaumont series. The 22 books in the series center on the work of the fictional Seattle officer. In 1993, Jance started another series, this time focusing on Joanna Brady. The two series came together in her 2009 best-seller, Fire and Ice.
She has also written a third series of novels that follow Ali Reynolds. Like the fourteen books in the Joanna Brady series, these seven novels are set in Arizona. Additionally, Jance has written four thrillers that fall outside the other series.
Jance has said that her own difficulties in life have helped her writing. Her years married to her alcoholic first husband have informed the character of Detective Beaumont, while her time as a single parent has been brought to the page through Joanna Brady.
Jance continues to write, and her books regularly feature on best-seller lists.
