J.K. Rowling eBooks
Best known for her Harry Potter books. J K Rowling has recently completed her first novel for adults: The Casual Vacancy.
Born in 1965, she spent her childhood in Chepstow and later attended Exeter University. After completing her degree in French and Classics, Jo became a researcher for Amnesty International and lived in London before moving to Portugal where she taught English.
In 1992 Jo married and a year later gave birth to a daughter. Unfortunately the marriage didn’t last and Jo and her daughter returned to the UK taking up residence in Edinburgh where they still live today together with Jo’s second husband and two other children.
An OBE for services to children’s literature was awarded to her in the year 2000 and she also holds many other awards and honorary degrees. Jo supports a number of charities through her charitable trust, Volant whilst also being the founder of Lumos, a charity working with disadvantaged children. A book called The Tales of Beedle the Bard was written by Jo to aid this charity and she has also written two books in aid of Comic Relief which interestingly bear the titles of two of Harry Potter’s school books – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages.
Dreaming up the idea of Harry Potter whilst stuck on a train between Manchester and London, J K Rowling has gone on to write a total of seven books in the Harry Potter series – a truly inspirational achievement.
