Michael Cunningham eBooks
Michael Cunningham is a writer with many credits and awards to his name. He is currently a professor of creative writing at Yale University and lives in New York City with his partner of many years.
Cunningham is openly gay, but has said in interviews that he doesn’t like to be labeled a gay writer. To him this is not an accurate statement of how he is and what he does. He believes that just because he is a gay writer that this should not be the characteristic that defines who he is.
Cunningham has a Bachelors degree in English literature and a Masters in Fine Arts. While working on his Masters degree, Cunningham wrote many short stories. These short stories have appeared in the Paris Review and the Atlantic Monthly magazine. It was his breakout novel that gave him the fame and notice of the literary world.
His novel The Hours is his the one hat put him on the map. He received the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner award for it. Any author who can say they have won either of these awards for their novel is someone who has an intimate relationship with their writing process. Cunningham is such a person and aside from teaching how to write creatively at Yale University, he has also taught writing courses at Brooklyn College, and at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
