Peter Carey eBooks
Peter Carey, born in Australia, is best known for his books Oscar and Lucinda and True History of the Kelly Gang. Both of these books have been awarded the Man Booker Prize. He has also won the Miles Franklin Award three times. Australians believe that Carey should be nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
After dropping out of college due to a car accident and a realization that he really wasn’t very interested in his major area of study, he began work in the advertising business. This is where he first learned how to write great copy for advertising and also wetted his appetite for his own writing. Carey would work all day and then write his own fiction after work and on the weekends. He was often able to work out a schedule where he work only a few days a week, or even just a few hours a week, so that he could continue on with his writing.
It took many years before he saw anything of his published. He had written five novels, all of which were rejected by publishers, before he was able to see a few short stories published in magazines.
Carey’s two most notable works are Oscar and Lucinda, published in 1988, and True History of the Kelly Gang. He continues to write while living in New York City where he advises a Hunter College and the City University of New York.
