Richard Matheson eBooks
Richard Matheson is an American fantasy and science fiction author. Born in 1926, he grew up in Brooklyn. Before studying at the University of Missouri, he served in World War II as an infantry soldier.
Born of Man and Woman, Matheson’s first short story, was published in 1950. The story launched his writing career, and over the following twenty years, he would publish dozens of short stories. His stories combined elements of horror, science fiction, humor, and fantasy, with many blending the genres.
During the same period, Matheson also wrote television screenplays including fourteen episodes of The Twilight Zone. He also wrote several TV movies, including The Night Stalker. He won an Edgar Award for The Night Stalker in 1973. Matheson has written twenty movies since 1957 and over thirty television screenplays since 1959.
In 1953, Matheson’s first novel was published. Someone is Bleeding was followed by Fury on Sunday in the same year. The following year, he published one of his most famous and most adapted novels, I Am Legend.
Many of Matheson’s novels, including 1956’s The Shrinking Man and 1958’s A Stir of Echoes, were also adapted for film. His nearly thirty novels have covered a variety of genres. His 1960 novel, The Beardless Warriors, was an autobiographical novel based on his service in World War II.
Matheson continues to write, and has recently published a novel and several short story collections. He has also written the screen adaptations of many of his stories and novels.
