Robert E. Howard eBooks
Robert E. Howard, born on January 22, 1906, was a small, intellectual child that, at nine years old dreamed of one day becoming a professional fiction writer. Howard grew up in Cross Plains, Texas, where he read books and admired the professional boxers of that time. As a teenager, he would eventually pick up boxing as an amateur.
At the age of 23 he started to have success with his writing and began to be consistently published in magazines, newspapers, and other print means. However, he never did live to see anything he wrote ever become an actual book. Howard if often thought of as the father of the sword and sorcery genre. His best known characters of the time and even in movies and short story collections now, is Conan the Barbarian; originally known as Conan the Cimmerian. This is a series of short stories that follow the tales of a barbarian lord in a fictional world. His work is still being published today in novel form as a collection of his stories.
Howard only lived to the age of thirty. His mother had always been sickly with tuberculosis. He sat by his mother’s side as a prognosis came from the doctor stating that she had gone into a coma and would likely never come out of it. Howard promptly left the room; went to his car, and then shot himself in the head. He died June 11, 1936. To this day no one knows why he decided to commit suicide.
