Steven Parlato, a writer, illustrator and Assistant Professor of English, has been published in poetry journals including MARGIE, Borderlands, Freshwater, CT River Review and Peregrine. He has also appeared on the stage in roles ranging from Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz to the lead character in William Shakespeare's MacBeth. Parlato's young adult manuscript, The Namesake, which won the 2011 Tassy Walden Award for New Voices in Children's Literature, is one of five debut novels from Merit Press Books. Recently, Kirkus Reviews called THE NAMESAKE “a painstaking dissection of a father’s past and its reverberations in his son’s life. A memorable, disturbing story, carefully wrought.” Steven is represented for fiction by Victoria Marini of The Gelfman-Schneider Literary Agency.
