Author Interview

Jessica Hauser

Have you ever met that one girl that simply refused to do things the right way and the easy way? Or how about that girl, that no matter how many times she was knocked down, she still got up? How about that mother or wife who had something to prove to the world? I am that girl, I am that woman - and for that I am proud.

Interview

Each week authors will be given a new question to answer which will lend additional insight into their story and writing process. Do you have a question you'd like to see the authors answer? Tweet it to @aNextAuthor!

Q:
What is the best writing advice you've ever heard?
A:
Write only what you know, and how you want to write it. Sometimes schooling or training in writing will change your angle, your individual special talent.
Q:
When you start a new story do you prepare an outline in advance or do you just jump right in?
A:
When I write, it is because I am moved to do so. There is a need to get it out, or a story I remember that I would like to share. Outlines are a good starting point, but not one that I have used as of yet.
Q:
How do you deal with writing criticism, apart from just ignoring it?
A:
My initial reaction is to correct them - but then I realize that if it bothers me, that there may be some truth there. There is helpful criticism and pointless critiquing, one benefits the writer and the other attempts to break them down.

I felt like i was living this as i was reading it. Felt like it was coming from the heart. Felt that if women who were in this situation felt they were walking in the footsteps of this young lady. Good job

This piece addresses an important issue but not always in a believable way. In most cases, the cycle of abuse is much longer: with initial incidents being far less severe. That's why those who are abused tend to stay in relationships; because they have had longer to adjust to the situation. Not to mention secondary factors, such as children and self-esteem. But while alcholism is often a part of abuse, it is rarely the only cause of it. Hints of the husband's tendencies should have been apparent before he started drinking again. Overall, this piece has a lot of drama and detail but needs more focus and possibly more research, as well.

This was one of the most pointless stories I have EVER wasted my time on. Honestly - having been in that situation - your 'heroine' was completely useless. I wish I could put 0 stars, since I will never get that 4 minutes of my life back.

Okay, I applaud all women who get themselves out of this situation... But, while this story was well written...it was just so...I don't know...Unrealistic.
