This eBook gives a brief
account of the lives and basic teachings of five Christian teachers who
could be described as "evangelical mystics". They are A. W. Tozer,
Watchman Nee, Sadhu Sundar Singh, Gulshan Esther and Selwyn Hughes.
Each subject is examined
separately, first from the point of view of his/her life experience and
spiritual development, and then the basic points of teaching are
discussed. The object of the book is to present a relatively succinct
account of the main teachings of these representative evangelical mystics,
to compare their essential beliefs and to present the corpus of their
teachings and approach to spiritual matters as something to be taken very
seriously by the church of today. It will be seen that these people are
not 'extremists'. Rather, they are prophetic voices to whom attention
should be paid in these times of confusion and (all-too-frequently)
watered-down teaching.
The terms "mysticism" and
"evangelical mysticism" are explained in the Introduction, where the five
subjects are also introduced.
Chapter One concerns A. W.
Tozer and presents his essential teachings. Such topics as the Bible as a
means of revelation, the filling of the Holy Spirit, "God-likeness",
holiness and the "spark of God within" are discussed.
Chapter Two follows a
similar structure in dealing with the life and teaching of Watchman Nee.
His teachings are drawn from his best known work, "The Normal Christian
Life".
The third chapter concerns
the Indian Christian mystic Sadhu Sundar Singh. It presents an account of
his life, his spiritual exercises and his basic teachings. The latter are
drawn principally from his work "At the Master's Feet".
Chapter Four looks at the
life and experiences of the Pakistani visionary Gulshan Esther, born to a
family that traces its ancestry to Muhammad, but who was converted to
Christianity following a series of visions of Jesus.
Chapter Five has as its
subject the well-known Welsh evangelist and Christian counsellor, Selwyn
Hughes.
Finally, the basic teachings
of these people and their relevance to the wider church are brought
together in a concluding chapter. more

A STEP TOWARD RENEWAL
(FREE e-book)
Today, the Holy Spirit is moving through the
church, awakening many Christians to a deeper spirituality and a deeper
unity of the Body.
This short e-book suggests some meditations
on key Biblical passages that can make us more sensitive to this move.
Paul instructed Timothy to reflect on what
he had told him, with the promise that “God will give you insight into all
this” (2 Tim. 2:10). Similarly, if we reflect (meditate) on the passages
of the Bible, can we doubt that God will also grant us insight and prepare
us for the Spirit’s moving?
WINDOW TO THE LIGHT
(POD paperback and non-print e-book)
Do near-death and mystical experiences,
visions, prophecies, answers to prayer and the like point toward a
‘spiritual sense’; a sense that remains undeveloped in most people?
If there is something within us that
perceives spiritual realities, may it not also misperceive
spiritual things? Is it possible that there may even be spiritual
hallucinations?
How can we determine what are real spiritual
perceptions and what are not?
MILLENNIUM NOW
(POD paperback)
In this popular-level study of Biblical
prophecy, Dr. Seargent takes issue with the widespread belief that the
Bible predicts all manner of coming disasters … a global war of terrible
proportions, a time of great suffering under the worldwide dictatorship of
the Antichrist and so forth.
He argues that most of the prophetic
passages frequently used to support such views actually referred to the
‘Great Tribulation’ experienced by Israel in AD 70.
Seargent argues that the Bible teaches a
progressive victory of Christ’s kingdom on earth, culminating in the
Second Coming of the Lord as Judge.
COPERNICUS, GOD & GOLDILOCKS: OUR PLACE AND PURPOSE IN THE
UNIVERSE (POD paperback)
Dr. Seargent argues that Planet Earth
occupies an unusual place in the Universe; a region where a large number
of beneficial factors improbably converge to make advanced life possible
over a long period of time.
The chances of this happening by accident
are so remote that a designing God is implied.
This book provides strong evidence against
the widespread view that there is nothing unusual about Earth and that
science gives us no reason for belief in a designing God.
