Durante degli Alighieri, or affectionately known to the world as Dante, was born in Florence, Italy in the month of May or June of 1265. He was divinely in love with Beatrice Portinari, whom Dante had affectionately called the Lady of the Salutation. He was privileged to have glimpsed her twice in his life. The first of such glimpses was when he was only nine, and she was only eight. Those glimpses were enough, for Beatrice to be his inspiring genius, and for Dante to achieve his greatness. Comments by John Roberts, an admirer of Dante It was a chilly Saturday, as I opened the front door of my house, I instantly felt the cool breeze hitting me softly. The afternoon torrential rain that poured cats and dogs, could have damped anyone's spirit, from going out in the evening. The clouds could not have cooperated either. As I hesitantly took my steps forward, the lavender garden in front of the patio greeted me joyously with its usual exquisite scent. It provided further impetus to stay home, by tingling me enough in the nostrils to make me wonder whether I should attend my friend, Ramsey's birthday party, or just spend the day writing the novel I'd been working on for the past month. The protagonist in the novel had been reflective of my lack of focus. I was working on a scene trying to get him to rescue a hostage crisis, and deal with his ex-wife who threatened to contact her attorney, to withdraw his visitation rights to their daughter. Hardly a new idea, but I was beginning to get attached with the suspense, and was flourishing the characters. I hoped for the readers' excitement. The moment of reflection and silence broke with a cell phone ring. As I looked at the screen, it was Danny calling, as if he telepathically heard my second thoughts about attending the birthday celebration. "Hey, John! You're coming rite?" Danny screamed. "Hi, Danny. The weather is a bit chilly today. " I responded nonchalantly. " It's Ramsey's twenty fifth birthday, so don't spring any surprises!" Danny was annoyed. "What time did you say the party is?" I asked. "See you at 8.00 pm, John. Bye." Danny switched off with his ritual discipline. Rain or shine, Danny McGuire's friendship is as enduring as an oak tree. He bristles to action, not according to season, but when the birthdates are around the corner. Leave of absence excuses are meant for official engagements only, and are therefore not tolerated by him. So I decided to break through the wind and the weather, and not allow anything to damp my spirit for the evening. However haphazardly you concoct an alcoholic beverage, you would never fail in dissolving sobriety provided you are with the right company. Little wonder that the list of cocktails hasn't stopped growing. Thunderous applause and cheers were ringing loud into my ears before I even entered Dreamer's Lounge, the funky little local tavern, keeping up with its slogan, "Only Happy Folks Permitted", merrily displayed at the entrance. There are no velvet ropes to welcome guests at the entrance, but everything else in the inside would make guests keep coming for more. The entrance is unpretentious, welcoming, and devoid of pomp and decadence. At least ten cheery eyes swung at me when I stepped in, as I realized that Danny has done a pretty good job in ensuring that everyone was well immersed with their concoction. "You have a lot of catching up to do" Danny said pointing at me. "Two shots of vodka?" I was doing my best to be uncanny by pointing two fingers up in the air. "Noooooo!" the screams were eerily loud as the Smirnoff eyes started howling cheerfully.
