Able Writers in Your School: Developing the Potential of Gifted Children in Primary Schools - A Practical Guide for Teachers PDF (Adobe DRM)

Roger Stevens
Able Writers in Your School will help you to develop the potential of your gifted pupils - and all the other pupils in your school as well! It passes on ideas, practical advice and lesson plans that the authors, Brian Moses and Roger Stevens, have found to work especially well with the groups of able writers they have taught over the last few years. Over 70 inspirational examples of children's work show how the ideas work in practice and raise the standard of children's work. Suggestions for poetry range from taking an idea and stretching it, making the familiar scary and dealing with serious issues. The chapters on prose include creating a realistic character, building conflict, looking at point of view and developing dialogue. Brian Moses is one of Britain's best-loved children's poets and has published over 160 books and performed in over 2000 schools across the UK and Europe. Roger Stevens is a children's author, poet and performer who visits schools, libraries, festivals and museums all over the UK. His poems for children appear in more than 200 anthologies and recent books include the anthology Let's Recycle Grandad (A&C Black) and the solo collection Why Otters Don't Wear Socks (Macmillan). Many of the ideas in this book originate from the Able Writers Scheme set up by Brian Moses in 2002. The scheme enables gifted children from clusters of schools to benefit from working with professional writers. Able Writers in Your School gives you the chance to stretch your able writers in any direction their creativity takes them.
