Many Southwest pioneer families had at least one "black sheep" in their family but not one who would become a notorius outlaw on the "most wanted"list of criminals.His name wa Haney Liddell. He was the son of a rich white family of white collar professionals,and community leaders,He quit a promising career as a cotton broker in his father's firm because it was not fast or fancy enough for his habits of womanizing and boozing. He began an eleven year (1917-1928)career of crime with a cold blooded murder of a friend. He followed this by swindling ownership of Indian land, counterfeiting, and Ku Klux burning and atrocities. H also committed numerous bank robberies, in one of which he killed a county sheriff.He died of gunshot wounds from a posse, and if not he would be most certainly facing the electric chair.
