Henry Gaylord Wilshire was one of the most fascinating men of his time. He developed a 35 acre barley field that would become one of the most famous streets in the world. He ran for Congress three times and for Parliament in both Great Britain and Canada. He published one of the most successful socialist journals in the U.S. He called Jack London, Upton Sinclair and George Bernard Shaw friends. He sold millions of dollars worth of stock in a gold mine and more millions of dollars worth in a magnetic belt that he said cured cancer, diabetes, baldness and constipation. He was a man with an enduring social conscience but he was also a self promoter and perhaps unethical. Only the reader should decide. The book contains 70 historical photographs.
