(Excerption from the book)

Koya-san holy place is the sacred ground of Shingon Buddhism (Mantra Esoteric Buddhism) constructed by Kukai who is called Koubo-daishi hierarch.
Kukai joined Embassies to Tang China at the year of 804 when he was 31 years old, and he went to Cyoan of Tou.
Where, he was given the title of eighth supreme Ajyarihenjyokongo from Keika bonze as he had mastered legitimate esoteric Buddhism. Then, he came back in 806.
He was granted Koya-san holy place (900m above sea level) from Saga emperor who was the emperor at that time, and he opened Shingon Esotericism holy land by founding Koyasan-kongoubuji temple on the basin of the summit with many disciples in 816.
