In the dark of the night inside the boards of an old wooden house that has fallen to the ground, families of sapient roaches live a life of secrecy and starvation. As the roaches search for spoils, they are afraid to enter the tall grasses known as the dangerous Jungle of Insects.
Tuodi, a cockroach strangely different in color than his kin, wonders what life is like in the house he sees across the jungle while sitting atop a big plant. Curious and hungry, he wants to forage for food in the home and be treated like any other pet that has the freedom to go wherever they want. But even as all the other roaches warn him that the humans will surely kill him, Tuodi disappears into the forest without a trace. As Tuodi makes friends in the woods, his kin arranges for a search party to enter the jungle with the hope of finding him before he meets his demise.
In this charming tale, a little cockroach with a big dream embarks on a journey through a jungle where he soon discovers that he is braver than he ever imagined.
