The Clan Mahaffey originally came from Scotland. They migrated southwest to Northern Ireland along with thousands of other Scots to the Ulster Plantation. Aye, then comes the tale of Charles Mahaffey, progenitor of the Cumberland Valley Mahaffeys, who immigrated from Northern Ireland to New England prior to June of 1753. His descendants were pioneers who bravely carved out their homes in the frontier land of Ohio and lived among many native North American tribes. The land was called the Northwest Territory back then and later became the State of Michigan. There are many biographical sketches, rare ancestral photographs, and family lore that date back to 1600. The author’s wife is a direct descendant of this ancient clan.
