A half to three-quarter grown tom cat turns up on the doorstep of the house of a quiet suburban couple, in a quiet town somewhere in the South of England. Life had gone on peacefully until the arrival of Mow, the cat as he became known.

The Annual town carnival is ruined by a cat fight and the local council has its integrity and efficiency questioned. Various kindly intentioned and well-meaning people are seriously disillusioned.

A burglar’s leg is attacked by an enraged tom cat while his horror stricken face stares into that of a fiercely growling Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

A large Labrador dog is scared out of its wits by the same tom cat and flees with the indignant cat after it.

Then there are mysterious goings on in the parish church. The vicar is accused of conducting Satanic rituals at midnight and of calling up demons. The whole town knows it and the scandal mongering editor fans the flames of rumour aided and abetted by the town’s population of inebriates. Only the vicar knows nothing of these goings on. He imagines he is being kind to pussy cats.
