Two nine-year-olds who live in Salem, Massachusetts come to realize they're being called, in their dreams, to some sort of supernatural duty. Tammy Woods, more worried that the occasional voices in her head might mean she's going crazy than her already-established supernatural ability to view people's auras might, is comforted to make the acquaintance of Rama Patil...a boy in her class who is experiencing similar phenomena, and whose family moved to Salem from India only several years before. But as Halloween approaches, crises in Tammy's mother's life -- a single mom -- also put a crushing amount of stress on Tammy as well. Her reaction to this stress, and the frightening series of events in this fictional view of the year 1998 in Salem lead to consequences and discoveries that neither Tammy or Rama could have imagined in even their wildest dreams.
