She's Everything He Despises—And Desires

When Captain Stuart Marston meets, woos and then marries Cassandra Everson in Barbados, he is unaware of her real identity. And then the truth is revealed—she is none other than the daughter of his enemy, a notorious pirate who has terrorized the seas.

Cassandra is unable to understand why her once passionate husband can no longer bear to be near her. When they're forced to spend days—and nights—together, it's more than obvious that Stuart still desires her. If only she can make him see that she's still the loving, steadfast woman he first lost his heart to .

Contradictory Character

This was very good from a historical point of view. I thought Dickson captured the atmosphere very well. Where it fell down for me was in the characterisation. Clearly Cassandra and the Captain are destined to be together because there are so many references to how everyone finds them so handsome and attractive - naturally they belong together (tongue in cheek). And to match this extraordinary beauty, Cassandra is supposed to be, in equal measure, feisty and independent. At times she was, but at times she was quick to self-flagellate all because of the sultry Captains cruel treatment. Not so feisty or independent. That got on my nerves a little bit - I didn't want her to be in love with someone who would treat her like that. Call me a feminist but I don't think it sends out the right message.
