The Secret Sharer - The Original Classic Edition, written by Mr Joseph Conrad has been published in the English language. The story takes place at sea near the Gulf of Siam (Thailand), is told by the newly appointed young Captain aboard. Unfamiliar with his ship and new crew, the Captain unsure of himself starts to question his ability to for fill this new role.
Alone on his night look out duty he encounters a naked swimmer, Leggatt. He helps Leggatt aboard the ship and takes him to his cabin where he finds out about the swimmers mysterious past. Leggatt was chief mate on another ship 'Sephora' close by where he killed another crew member for insolence during a storm.
The Captain keeps Leggatt in his quarters, so he would not be found by other crew members and a visit from the Captain of the 'Sephora'. Eventually the Captain allows Leggatt to escape by bringing the ship closer to shore. Testing the Captains seamanship through this risky sailing manoeuvre nearly sends the ship into the rocks. But he succeeds and leads the ship away.
Joseph Conrad was a Polish British novelist, who became a British subject in 1886 after fleeing his home country of Ukraine, Russia. He was regarded as one of the greatest novelists in English, even though it was his second language. He wrote stories and novels, predominantly with a nautical or seaboard setting, with a common theme being the human spirit by the demands of duty and honour. He was a very impressionable man with many talents for writing.
