|
Poor Girl Makes Good Jerusha Abbott has spent her entire eighteen years in the John Grier Home, a moderately-dismal orphan asylum. Now a wealthy trustee of the home has offered to put her through college, and all he asks in return is that she write him one letter per month, addressed to "Mr. John Smith," to which he will never reply. So begins a delightful one-way acqaintance, as Jerusha, who her anonymous benefactor hopes will become a writer, hones her skills by penning him letters -- addressed to "Daddy Long-Legs" -- about her experiences in the altogether foreign environment of an exclusive women's college. Armed with intelligence, a kind heart, and a sprightly wit, she begins to blossom as she never could in the John Grier Home.
