Dark Justice Summary
|
It is1806 and the American slave trade is at its height. This is the story of an African slave named Tobias. Brought to America as a young boy, he learned to live with the ways of the white man, but never adopted them. After seeing his wife brutally murdered and his children given away to another plantation, Tobias sought revenge on the man who was responsible. Escaping his captors, he travelled between slave camps in search of a Kuarr‑Muon, a high priest of his native religion. After finding such a man, a strangely beautiful, yet horrifying ceremony takes place. The Gods would grant Tobias his revenge ‑ for a price. Tobias accepts his fate, and begins a journey that will make his trek a local legend for years to come. After fulfilling his duty to the Gods, Tobias is granted his revenge and unleashes a marvellous fury upon his former Master. This fury was known to native Africans as "The Eater of Hearts." Almost two-hundred years later, the "Eater of Hearts" is accidentally called forth again. This time its target is an innocent man, Galen Morris. In a seemingly hopeless struggle to understand and overcome his pursuer, Galen embarks on a cross-country chase in search of help. What he finds are death, lies, and the love of his life. About the Author: Donnie Light lives in a rural community in northern Illinois, USA, with his wife Barbara and their cat, Hedgie. He has two grown sons who live nearby. He works in a nearby city where he is an Information Technology Specialist for a large company. He is a former Fire Chief and Paramedic. He enjoys reading, writing, fishing and boating among other things. On most summer weekends, Donnie and Barbara can be found on their small houseboat cruising a lake in central Illinois. "Dark Justice" is Donnie’s first novel, and he is currently working on his second. |

| Galen Morris is running for his life. He does not know his pursuer, or even the nature of the thing that follows him relentlessly. Before he can stop running, he has to understand his pursuer. In order to understand it, he has to face it, but only in fleeting moments before he must run again. In his struggle to survive, he knows only one thing for sure - he must run. or die. The answers he desperately needs to survive will be found in a 200 year-old legend about a slave, also running for his life, who seeks justice for the murder of his wife. This justice will not come from a court of law, to which slaves had no access, but from something very different indeed. In a seemingly hopeless struggle to understand and overcome his pursuer, Galen embarks on a cross-country chase in search of help. What he finds are death, lies, and the love of his life Dark Justice tells two separate, but related tales that come together in an exciting climax, where justice is finally served - in a very dark and unusual way.
