| She'd killed the kid. His kid. The man who will call himself the Paladin of the Unborn did not know his ex-wife was expecting his child till after it had been aborted. In retaliation, he kills his wife's doctor, then moves on to another town to kill another abortion doctor. Police Chief Lang Favin was used to dealing with small things like car theft, cabin break-ins, and vandalism until elderly Georgia Hicks is beaten to death and her body hung on the grape arbor in her backyard. This murder is followed closely by the murder of a teenaged girl and a raid on a local doctor's office by a group calling themselves Southern Midwestern Americans For America. Maggie Chalmers and Hattie Bingham have looked out for the town their great-great-grandfather founded all their lives. When Georgia Hicks then Karen Doyle is beaten to death they begin to investigate. Chief Favin, overwhelmed by the sudden crime wave, comes to the sisters for advice. Soon Chief Favin, the sisters, and their friends are involved in investigating the murders. Chief Favin finds a new strength; a strength that at first emerges as Bad Cop but later becomes part of him. The Paladin of the Unborn knows of the chief and his friends and works against them. But they don't know of him...until it is nearly too late. |
