| Molested as a young child, Elana Devenney endures horrible nightmares and becomes mute for more than a year. But she turns her pain into a dream and dedicates her life to helping emotionally disturbed children. Elana prepares for her future with three postgraduate degrees. But when she meets and marries Dr. Warren Grant, she chooses instead to be his nurse in his medical center. She also agrees to help her mother present seminars on battered women and the prevention of child abuse at Warren's medical center. Elana feels a measure of fulfillment, knowing the lives of many women and children are improving because of the seminars. However, Elana spent six years training to work with children.
