The life and recollections of a school teacher at an English boarding school spanning the time from Queen Victoria to postwar WW !. A very short sentimental novel. It describes an individual whose outstanding characteristics were modesty and perserverance. Over the years he developed a deep affection for the students and the school. The affection was returned, though with proper British restraint. New teachers might well find too much sugar but will read the book with wistfulness for a time that may never be again.
