The Governance of Large Technical Systems Summary

Large technical systems (LTS) such as transportation, telecommunications, energy supply and urban utility networks present particular problems of governence for firms, industries and nation-states. Their complexity calls for constant innovation in firm management and industrial organization, while their key role in modern economics and their frequent monopolistics nature necessitate close public surveillance. This work examines the governence of LTS at firm, industry and state levels and the interactions between the systems and society.
