One night she is surprised to see Erica Hill, an old friend of her deceased brother, at the training class. The women do some catching up and make promises to call each other.

A few months later, Chloe is driving along the highway when she is flagged down by Frankie, another volunteer, and told that someone has killed the bookmobile driver. Frankie can't recall the driver's first name, but knows that the last name is Hill. Fear creaps into Chloe and she asks "Erica?" and Frankie confirms her fears.
