I dedicate this book to my Mother, and for the love that she gave me during her raging struggles to survive. Even though I couldn’t feel her pain it was ever present in my life. Her mind was brilliant, but her mind was damaged. Her will was strong, but her spirit was weak. She did not have a will to live, or the courage to die. We felt her pain much more than she ever felt it, and we always heard her silent cry. She lived a life of bondage and kept my family members and me prisoners to her disease. The presence of a mentally ill family member will bring distress to the family and relief through natural death. This is true because so many times the mentally ill will take their own life and leave their family with a tremendous amount of sorrow and quilt. Keeping the mentally ill family member alive takes an incredible amount of energy and only through natural death brings rest. This book is for everyone that has had a family member suffering with a mental illness. This is my Mother’s story, and her life. I hope by telling this story it will help me and others understand this misunderstood disease. |
