Taraana-e Saroor Summary

This e book contains 2 English translations of manuscripts on the Sufi music of Kashmir. The first was written in the 18th century by Khushdil, and the second is earlier and anonymous. They served as introductory theory and history for collections of poetry sung during Sufi musical gatherings. While portions of the documents are a combination of Hindu and Muslim religious musical theory - there are also detailed rhythmic notation included. Of particular interest is the discussion related to the use of music as medicine.

Also thanks go to the Research and Publication Department of the J&K governement for permission to use their manuscript published on 1962. The 1962 edition was used but also original manuscripts were consulted in the Kashmir University's Library.
