When the smoke clears, Joe Parker gets involved with the Allied Intelligence effort to develop the ULTRA cryptographic code. While he and Dale are sweltering under the sun and Rommel's unremitting pressure, their friends, Adam Bergman and his wife, Catherine, are in the Pacific. She's a nurse based at Pearl Harbor and is stationed on a hospital ship during the Battle of the Coral Sea, and he's with the marines, first on Wake Island, as the U.S. base there is expanded, and then he is part of the force at the epic battle for Midway Island, which forms the climax of the book. This is the second novel following these four people in W.W. II. The historical accuracy and emotional intensity of the story will make this 20th century history come alive for readers, whether they're familiar with the conflict or not. |
