Mobipocket FAQ

eBooks in this format are no longer sold at eBookMall.

Amazon (the current owner of Mobipocket) discontinued the Mobipocket eBook format on January 2, 2012.

Amazon has stated that past purchases will remain available to customers. eBookMall will keep your Mobipocket eBooks available to you for as long as we possibly can, but we recommend that you download them as soon as possible.

We do not know how long Amazon will continue to offer downloads for the Mobipocket Reader program that allows you to read Mobipocket eBooks. We recommend that you download it right away if you don't currently have it.

We are continuing to keep this FAQ page available for your reference.

Answers

General Information

Now that Mobipocket Reader has become obsolete, how long will I be able to download my previous purchases from eBookMall?

We will keep your previous orders available to you for download for as long as we possibly can. The Mobipocket company was purchased by Amazon a few years ago, and they are now phasing out the eBook format. At this point, we don't know how long they will continue to provide the Mobipocket Reader downloads and support its related DRM system. Because of this, we recommend that you download your eBooks sooner rather than later. In the meantime we are continuing to keep this FAQ page available to you for your reference.

For other devices: click on the "Help" menu and then "About..." menu item.

I get the message "Wrong PID" when I try to open my eBook.

This usually happens because you made a typo when you entered your PID before downloading the eBook. Contact us to give us the correct PID and we'll update it in your account. You can then download a new copy of the eBook.

Can I register or change my PIDs at Mobipocket.com?

No. If you purchased eBooks at eBookMall.com you can manage them at eBookMall.com.

I'm trying to register a PID and I keep getting the error message "Your PID is not valid".

The Personal ID is a 10-character string. In order to differentiate numbers from letters, numbers are displayed as underlined or bold. Letters are always in uppercase.

These are some common mistakes when entering a PID:

  • Mistake an uppercase letter I (like in Italy) for the lower case letter l (like in laptop)
  • Mistake the letter Z for the number 7 underlined
  • Uppercase letter I and number one 1
  • Uppercase letter O and number zero 0

Additional information:

If the PID displayed in the About box of the Reader only has 8 characters, you will need to upgrade to the latest Mobipocket Reader version to get a 10-character PID.

You must not enter the numbers as underlined in your account on the website. Numbers are only underlined in the About box to help you distinguish them from letters.
